After wandering eastward for a few minutes, Max’s ears no longer heard the curses and rants of Chef, Chris, and the uninvited drinking guests. Instead, his ears noticed the sound of trickling water. It wasn’t long until he discovered the sound’s source: a cobblestone fountain among the hotel garden. He didn’t think much of the fountain. In fact, he was going to pass it by until he noticed a slender mass yellow with red hair resting against the fountain’s edge. Recognizing his sidekick, he began to approach her. A mixture of emotions flowed through him as he stepped closer: anger, worry, bewilderment. He mentally debated how he should begin the impending lecture on how irresponsibly she acted. He was a foot behind Scarlett, ready to scold his minion when he noticed something he’d never fathomed to be possible.
